- USB 2.0 male A to RJ45 female adapter supporting gigabit Ethernet at USB 2.0 speeds (480Mbs)
- Drivers for Windows 7, Vista, XP, Mac OS X, and Linux. Not Wii compatible.
- Supports 10/100/1000 with auto-sensing. Supports auto MDIX (straight and cross cable auto-detection)
- ASIX AX88178 Controller and Realtek RTL8211CL PHY – Jumbo packets up to 9KB, along with suspend mode and remote wakeup
This adapter is a plug-and-play solution for adding a network interface to your computer via a simple USB adapter. Common uses are for improved speeds vs. 10/100 adapters and wireless networks, for replacing a broken internal network card, for adding a separately routable network interface, and for peer-peer file transfer over Ethernet. It is not a solution for connecting a USB device to a network. Plug into any USB 2.0 laptop or desktop currently limited to 10/100 ethernet, and benefit from faster transfers on your Gigabit Ethernet Network. USB 2.0 supports theoretical speeds up to 480Mbs. In practice, most machines will see up to a doubling of network speed by moving from 100Mbs Fast Ethernet to 1000Mbs Gigabit ethernet via USB. Also works on 10/100 ethernet networks at their native speeds.

Lenovo Adds 4-Port USB Hub To New Power Hub AC Adapter
Lenovo is known for a few things. Namely, the ThinkPad, the IdeaPad and the ThinkCentre lines of computers. Lenovo notebooks in particular are used heavily in businesses, as their rugged frames and iconic tracking point. But here’s something you probably don’t think about: the power adapter that ships with Lenovo’s ThinkPad line. It’s just a standard, black power adapter. Nothing too special about it.
But this new Power Hub is something special. And it’s something that we wish all power adapters came with, particularly ultraportable machines that only have one or two USB ports. The Power Hub doesn’t look too different than a standard ThinkPad power adapter, but there are two main differences to point out: there’s a USB cable hanging from the adapter, and there are four open USB ports on one end of the laptop ac adapter.
You’ve probably figured out the purpose already. Lenovo created this in order to add a four-port USB hub to every ThinkPad that uses it. You simply plug the USB cable into a single USB port on your ThinkPad, and then you can plug up to four powered USB devices into the power block itself to have those connected to the notebook. It’s a “first ever” combo device according to Lenovo, and we’ve definitely never seen anything like it before. It’s on sale now for .99, but it will be most useful when it’s bundled in with ThinkPad notebooks from the start. How long until all other PC makers start to follow suit? This is an amazing invention as far as we’re concerned; the idea of integrated a port hub into the power brick is nothing short of HOT.

USB Devices, Ports and Channels
The USB ports are active if the operating system is Windows XP. Go into bios and make sure the USB ports are all enabled. When the laptop is running in the dock, the USB ports are not fuctional. Note: High-powered USB ports are generally the ones that reside on your computer or on a powered USB hub.
USB
USB ports come in pairs, two ports per channel. USB has a convenient plug and play feature. USB devices don’t always need to be plugged into the same port they were initially and properly set up on. USB is an external bus standard designed for enhancing plug and play capabilities for attaching peripherals to your PC. USB can connect peripherals such as mousedevices, keyboards, PDAs, gamepads and joysticks, scanners, digital cameras, printers, external storage, networking components, etc.
Ports
You should check to make sure that you USB ports are enabled in the BIOS. If you’re looking to save a penny, try buying a pci-card providing usb ports. If you can’t get the USB ports working by clearing the CMOS, try all of the ports, you may just have one bad channel. Even try the ports on your front panel (if you have them), just to be sure. You can look in device manager and the bios setup and see if the ports have been disabled or are missing a driver.
Devices
For low-speed and full-speed devices, the USB register set complies with the Open Host Controller Interface (OHCI) specification. For high-speed devices, the USB register set complies with the Enhanced Host Controller Interface (EHCI) specification. Compatible USB devices should support the USB-suspend mode defined in the USB specification. Class drivers are software components that are able to communicate with many USB devices of a particular kind. USB devices can also provide a remote wakeup function for the computer.
Software
If no standard USB keyboard or USB mouse works at all, there is no software fix. If it won’t let you into BIOS it’s not software problem, it’s a hardware problem. Alternatively, your computer’s original manufacturer’s set-up CD(s) may provide DOS drivers, because sometimes they are included with a fairly recent computer in order to enable the use of a USB keyboard or mouse with the DOS-level system-recovery software. USB ports are pretty easy to repair. USB ports are a bit better than before, but those too can be confusing when not in good sight, because an upside down usb cable end is still very close to the right size, but will not fit on until inverted. Up to 10 of these USB test plugs can be simultaneously connected to a PC providing that free USB ports are available on the PC or on a down stream hub and sufficient power is available.
